What's on in Week 1?
The wait is finally over! After months of counting down, planning and training, Brisbane Cycling Festival is finally here, and you can bet that it will start off with a bang! Whether you want to watch the pros, or have a go yourself, we have something for you! There are exciting events happening all over Brisbane, and we don’t know about you, but we can’t wait to get on a bike!
The Festival will kick off with Cycling Australia Masters Track National Championships, where you can watch the masters of track cycling race it out for the top place in thrilling events including individual and team pursuits, sprints and scratch races, time trials and point races. There can only be one winner, so come down to the Anna Meares Velodrome to see who will take the crown! Then join us on Sunday afternoon to celebrate the amazing determination and sportsmanship demonstrated at the Masters Championships at the Brisbane Cycling Festivals Sunday Session: Cycling Australia Masters Track National Champion After Party! Head to Howard Smith Wharves for live entertainment, food and drinks, as well as Brisbane’s best views!
Or, if you’re eager to put your pedal to the medal, complete your training for the Tour de Brisbane with Cycling Brisbane’s Get Ready to Ride: Tour de Brisbane Warm Up on Saturday morning. This community ride will ensure that you and your bike are ready to roll with some riding tips and helpful information, whilst you and your mates go for an easy group ride on a local bikeway. So chuck on your jersey and get ready for one of Brisbane Cycling Festival’s biggest events, with Cycling Brisbane.
If you spent all weekend getting inspired by those who competed in the Cycling Australia Masters Track Nationals, and now want to try your hand at track riding Cycling Queensland has granted your wish with their Come & Try Track Cycling event. Ride on the Chandler Velodrome and see if you’ve got what it takes to become a Track Rider, with coaches and bikes on hand, we’ve got everything you need!
Or are you more of a road rider? Then Cycling Brisbane’s Two Bridges is a must-do! If you’ve got a good level of fitness and confidence riding on roads, then this is the perfect recovery ride for you! This unmissable ride will allow you to experience a unique perspective of Brisbane's two largest bridges. Starting and finishing at Captain Burke Park, you’ll cover 30km in three hours, and see Brisbane’s finest sites, such as the Story Bridge, New Farm, Eagle Farm and have a cup of the tastiest coffee that Morningside has to offer.
Now, this one is for the ladies! If you want to surround yourself with strong, mountain climbing women, then Cycling Brisbane’s Learn to Ride a Mountain Bike and Get Good at Riding a Mountain Bike are the events for you! These two events are catered especially for women and eliminates all the daunting elements of riding off-road. These events will take you from an amateur rider, to an adventurous mountain climber, so strap on your helmet and knee-pads, and meet us at the Gap Creek Reserve Picnic Area!
The end of week one means it’s time for our juniors to shine! March 17th marks the beginning of the Cycling Australia Junior Track National Championships! Starting off with a Queensland State Team Training session, the afternoon will conclude with an invitation to all juniors competing in the Cycling Australia Junior Track National Championships to attend the official welcome party!
