The Brisbane Cycling Festival Partners with the Nitro World Games!

The Brisbane Cycling Festival today announced a new partnership with one of the most exciting action sport competitions ever to hit Australia, the Nitro World Games. The partnership further positions the Brisbane Cycling Festival as Australia’s largest multi-discipline and action packed Cycling festival.

Created by Nitro Circus and Travis Pastrana, the Nitro World Games is the next evolution of action sports competition. The world’s top athletes in FMX, BMX, skate, and scooter will gather in Brisbane’s iconic Suncorp Stadium 23 – 24 October for a global showdown in what will be the biggest action sports event of 2021.

In a major acquisition for the Brisbane Cycling Festival, the Nitro World Games stars will perform a number of ‘Expression Sessions’ across the three feature days of the Festival Village, 9 – 11 April at the Brisbane Showgrounds.

The All-Stars will also compete in various events across the festival including Street Crit, King St Sprints, Levelled Car Park Climb Event and the Celebrity Bike Polo Tournament.

Nitro World Games BMX Expression Sessions:

  • Two x 30 minute shows each day of the Festival village inside the Showgrounds Arena.
  • After each show there will be an athlete meet and great & interviews.
  • FREE to come and watch

Andy Edwards, President Asia Pacific at Thrill One sports and entertainment said “We’re so proud to be partnering with the Brisbane Cycling Festival. With tickets now on sale for the Nitro World Games and excitement building by the day, it’s great to be able to give attendees of the Festival a little taste of what Brisbane fans can expect to see later in the year at Suncorp Stadium”

AusCycling Queensland, General Manager Sean Muir said AusCycling aims to bring together all disciplines of cycling, and to build partnerships to support and encourage more people to ride a bike. Through our involvement in the Brisbane Cycling Festival we are creating more cycling opportunities, and through partnerships we are reaching more people to share the joy of cycling.

The introduction of Nitro Circus into the Brisbane Cycling Festival adds another layer of excitement and attraction for people interstate or here in Queensland.

The 2021 festival will have something for everyone, whether you ride regularly, want to ride more, or you want to be a part of the next big thing in Brisbane.

Tourism and Sport Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said innovation and collaboration has helped to take a Queensland event to a completely new level.

“Securing a world-class line-up of star athletes from the Nitro World Games to bring their trick skills and agility to the Brisbane Cycling Festival is a masterstroke,” Mr Hinchliffe said.

“This delivers a completely new dimension to an already great festival program.

“I met some of the Nitro World Games’ Australian competitors recently and can vouch for their ability to do the extraordinary with two wheels and a handlebar.

“Bringing athletes from the Nitro World Games into the Brisbane Cycling Festival is a win for ingenuity and a win for festival goers who will be amazed and inspired.

“It’s because of the hard work of Queenslanders with COVID-19 that we’re able to host events like the 2021 Brisbane Cycling Festival.

“The Brisbane Cycling Festival is part of the It’s Live! in Queensland events calendar, which is on target to generate $215 million for the Queensland economy in the first half of 2021.

“We know events are crucial for tourism and supporting jobs for Queensland’s COVID-19 economic recovery.”

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said this exciting partnership would cement Brisbane’s position as one of Australia’s leading cycling destinations.

“This collaboration will bring the stars of the Nitro World Games to the Festival Village stage, adding to the dynamic mix of athletes and disciplines that make up the Brisbane Cycling Festival,” Cr Schrinner said.

“Without a doubt these action-sports stars will be another drawcard for residents and for visitors to come to Brisbane to experience the festival, and while they’re here, enjoy our open-air city, world-class cycling infrastructure, and urban adventure attractions.”

Come October these All-Star elite competitors will push the limits in a battle to top the podium, attempting insane tricks never seen before. With new gravity-defying big air formats, the largest ramps ever seen in competition and innovative course designs, the Nitro World Games is set to once again transform action sports.
